Lucas Oil Holeshot Kings & Lucas Legion Highlights at Mammoth MX
In an extraordinary feat of machinery and manpower the Mammoth crew pumped two million gallons of water out of the track, and the 50th annual Mammoth Motocross race went off without a hitch. Pristine, sunny skies and prime dirt conditions belied the lake that was the Mammoth MX track just a week before, after withstanding one of the heaviest snowfalls in Mammoth history. Record snows put us to the ultimate test this winter, with all snow cats, lifts, snowmobiles, and buses in Mammoth running off Lucas Oil Products. Lucas kept the mountain moving this year!
Lucas Legion rider and local Bishop Motocross hero Casey Dean kicked the weekend off right during Vet Days at Mammoth. Earning four Lucas Oil Holeshots in his Lucas Oil powered #16 Honda, Dean rounded out the weekend with a golden bear in the 30 B Vet class.
In the Lucas Oil Mini Championships Lucas Legion rider #71 Hunter Cross found himself in the thick of some mini moto battles, running up front with fast kids Maximus Vohland and Jett Reynolds. In an incredible final moto of the two-day event Cross scored the Lucas Oil Holeshot, but a crash in the first lap dropped him back to 19th. Never daunted by a challenge, Cross worked his way through the pack for the rest of the moto, making his way up into 8th place. He closed out the weekend with a moto win, three top three overall finishes, and four golden bears.
Lucas Legion rider Talon Hawkins also wowed with a stellar ride on day one of the Lucas Oil Mini Championships, taking home a moto win and a bear in Mini Sr 1 12-13 class.
Maximus Vohland led the charge for Lucas Oil Holeshot King of mini days with a total of six holeshots. He took home $300 in Lucas Cash, presented on the podium by Lucas Oil Pro Motocross ambassador Nicole Cesa, as well as the Americore SMX crown at the close of the Lucas Oil Mini Championships.
Big bikes days at Mammoth MX brought action and upsets, with riders tearing up the rough track at this iconic motocross track. At the close of three days of racing the #33 of Derek Drake pulled in five Lucas Oil Holeshots, making him the final Lucas Oil Holeshot King of the event.
The 50th annual Mammoth Motocross came to a close after a week of racing and good times, including the Americore SMX Rock ‘N Bowl presented by Lucas Oil, Monster Energy Pit Bike Races in the Village, and scores of Bears presented on the podium. The greatest of all the golden bears should have gone out to Mike Colbert, Laurey Carlson, and the entire Mammoth crew who kept the event alive even under the most challenging of circumstances. Thanks for another memorable Mammoth MX. Until the 51st, cheers!
