Lucas Oil Mini Championships & Mammoth Motocross Race Recap
Long time sponsor of the Monster Energy Road to Mammoth and Mammoth Motocross, Lucas Oil expanded their support of the series in 2016 as title sponsor of the Lucas Oil Mini Championships at Mammoth MX on June 21-22, 2016.
As part of a comprehensive sponsorship deal with Mammoth Mountain rolling out this year, Lucas Oil designated a portion of that support to go back into motocross, helping to ensure the longevity of one of the nation’s longest standing motocross races, the Mammoth Motocross. Providing support and on-site activation through the grassroots organization My Lucas Oil, sponsorship included an all-new Lucas Oil impound with a second-story viewing deck, live timing of the races, and live feed during the final Big Bikes weekend.
Joshua Varize, #24, was named Holeshot King at the close of the Lucas Oil Mini Championships, earning an impressive eleven Lucas Oil holeshots over the course of two days.
“We love Mammoth Mountain,” says Jason Witt, head of Athlete Support at My Lucas Oil. “We love Mammoth Motocross. It’s an event that embodies the spirit of moto, a throwback to when moto was all about fun and good old-fashioned competition. We’ve watched many of these mini riders compete since they were on 50’s, and to step up as title sponsor of the mini days is a dream come true for us.”
Lucas Legion athletes went bear hunting at the Lucas Oil Mini Championships, resulting in some epic battles and hard-fought championships. Hunter Cross #71 battled some of the fastest mini bike riders in the country, earning the Championship in 85cc (9-12).

The event attracted excellent attendance, with over 400 bowling entries for kids and families.
