Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV – Lucas Oil riders Talon Hawkins and Jazzmyn Canfield made their Monster Energy Cup debut at Sam Boyd Stadium on October 13, 2018 to a raucous Las Vegas crowd.
Fourteen-year-old #71 Talon Hawkins competed in the Supermini class, qualifying third and feeling pumped for the mains. In the first moto he got a solid start landing him in the third place position, which he held throughout most of the moto. He kept the pressure on #24 Joshua Varize in second for several laps and was working towards a pass when his power valve went out going into the last lap. He was able to limp his bike across the finish line in 19th with the challenge of getting his bike race ready for moto two.
Hawkins went into the second moto using the motor from his practice bike. Despite the setback he stayed focus, getting a decent start and maintaining the sixth position for most of the moto to round out his first Monster Energy Cup experience with eleventh overall. All in all the results were not exactly what Hawkins hoped for, but his stellar performance early in moto one proved that Hawkins had both the speed and tenacity to be worthy of a Monster Energy Cup podium. We expect to see him back on the line in 2019!
Jazzmyn Canfield received the invitation to race the prestigious Monster Energy Cup just four weeks ago and joined the ranks of the Supermini class as one of only two girls invited to compete. Having spent most of her time on outdoor motocross tracks, Canfield gained valuable experience riding a tough supercross track under intense pressure. She went 20-19 for the weekend, and she is fired up for more supercross seat time in 2019.
